Why this applies to Abrocitinib

Abrocitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Rabdosia Rubescens interacts with.

In vitro research shows that oridonin, a constituent of Rabdosia rubescens, induces cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) enzyme. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 in patients taking Rabdosia rubescens. Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C9 include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren), ibuprofen (Motrin), meloxicam (Mobic), and piroxicam (Feldene); celecoxib (Celebrex); amitriptyline (Elavil); warfarin (Coumadin); glipizide (Glucotrol); losartan (Cozaar); and others.

Here's the gist for Cibinqo (abrocitinib): your body partly clears this eczema medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Lab studies suggest that oridonin, a compound in Rabdosia rubescens, may speed that enzyme up. In theory, a faster enzyme could clear abrocitinib a bit quicker, which might leave less in your system and make it work less well for your skin. You could notice your itching, dryness, or rashes creeping back if that happened.

The honest part: this is only seen in test-tube research, it's rated a minor interaction, and it has never been reported in real people. So don't panic. Still, since abrocitinib isn't a casual drug, just run this herb by your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

About Abrocitinib

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
