Here's the gist for quinidine: your body uses a kind of pump called P-glycoprotein to help move this drug out of cells and clear it. In test-tube studies, Rabdosia rubescens appears to slow that pump down. If the same thing happened in people, less quinidine would get pushed out, and the amount in your blood could creep up.
Quinidine is a narrow-margin heart rhythm drug, so even small increases matter. Higher levels can mean more side effects like dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, ringing in the ears, or, more seriously, new heart rhythm problems. That said, this warning comes only from lab research, not human studies, so it's a possibility, not a sure thing. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Here's the gist for quinidine: your liver clears this heart-rhythm medicine partly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab and animal studies hint that a compound in Rabdosia rubescens (oridonin) may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, your body could clear quinidine a little faster, which might leave less of it in your blood. For a drug like quinidine, where the right level really matters, even a modest dip could let the irregular heartbeat it's controlling slip back.
That said, this is only test-tube and animal evidence, and it has not been seen in real patients, so I wouldn't panic. Just don't add this herb on your own. Check with your pharmacist or cardiologist first, since quinidine levels are worth watching closely.

What Is Quinidine Used For?
Brand names: Quinaglute Duratabs, Quinaglute, Duraquin, Cardioquin, Cin-Quin, Quinora, Lin-Qin, Quinova, Quinidex Extentabs
Quinidine is used to help restore a normal heart rhythm in people with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (irregular, rapid heart rhythms originating in the upper chambers). It is also used on an ongoing basis to reduce how often those episodes come back, in patients whose episodes are frequent and poorly tolerated — but only after other options have been tried first.
Quinidine sulfate oral tablets and quinidine gluconate extended-release oral tablets are both approved for these heart-rhythm uses. Quinidine sulfate tablets are additionally used as part of an approved treatment regimen for life-threatening Plasmodium falciparum malaria, in combination with quinidine gluconate injection (the central component of that regimen). Both formulations may also be used to suppress recurrent, documented life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (dangerous rapid rhythms in the lower chambers of the heart), such as sustained ventricular tachycardia.
