Betamethasone falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Rabdosia Rubescens interacts with.

Rabdosia rubescens might increase levels of p-glycoprotein substrates. In vitro research shows that Rabdosia rubescens extract inhibits p-glycoprotein levels and activity. Drugs that might be affected include some chemotherapeutic agents (doxorubicin, etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), protease inhibitors (amprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, saquinavir), H2 antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, verapamil), digoxin, corticosteroids, erythromycin, cisapride (Propulsid), fexofenadine (Allegra), cyclosporine, loperamide (Imodium), quinidine, and others.

Here's the gist for betamethasone. Your body uses a kind of cellular bouncer called p-glycoprotein to help move certain drugs out of cells. Lab studies suggest Rabdosia rubescens may slow that bouncer down, which in theory could let a little more betamethasone hang around in your system and slightly raise its effects.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, so it's pretty theoretical. And most folks use betamethasone as a cream or ointment on the skin, where very little gets into the bloodstream, so a meaningful interaction is unlikely. With oral or injected betamethasone, in-theory extra steroid effects (more fluid retention, mood or sleep changes, higher blood sugar) matter more. Run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Betamethasone Topical Used For?

Brand names: Celestone, Diprolene AF, Diprosone

Betamethasone topical is used to relieve the redness, swelling, and itching of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses (skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment). Sernivo Spray is specifically approved for plaque psoriasis of the body. Diprolene (topical cream, ointment, or gel) is indicated for inflammatory and itchy skin conditions in patients 13 years of age and older.

This medication is for use on the skin only. It is not approved for use on the face, groin, or underarms, and it is not for use in the eyes, mouth, or vagina.
