Rauwolscine and Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 2 Interactions?

Rauwolscine interacts with whole categories of medication. Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Rauwolscine in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).

Moderate

SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS

1 of 2

Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine

Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine, Pyrilamine falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Rauwolscine interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rauwolscine with seizure threshold lowering drugs might increase the risk of adverse convulsant effects.
In animal research, intraperitoneal rauwolscine lowered the seizure threshold level of the drug metrazol.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Here's the simple version. This product (Tanamine) combines two antihistamines (chlorpheniramine and pyrilamine) with the decongestant phenylephrine. Both antihistamines can slightly lower your seizure threshold, meaning they make it a touch easier for a seizure to happen, especially at higher doses. Rauwolscine is a strong stimulant that may also nudge the brain in that same direction.

Stacking the two together could, in theory, raise the chance of an adverse reaction. Keep in mind this concern comes only from animal lab research, not real people, so the actual risk for most folks is low. Still, both can raise heart rate and cause jitteriness or anxiety. If you have a seizure history or a heart condition, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

This combo product contains phenylephrine, a decongestant that works a lot like the body's own stimulant chemicals to tighten blood vessels and clear a stuffy nose. The catch is that phenylephrine can also bump up your heart rate and blood pressure. Rauwolscine pushes in the same direction by raising norepinephrine, your natural stimulant signal, so stacking the two could add up to more of those stimulant-type effects: a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, anxiety, higher blood pressure, or trouble sleeping.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based mostly on animal research, not strong human data, so I don't want to overstate it. Still, if you have any heart or blood pressure issues, it's worth checking with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.
