Here's the thing about bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban): it's one of the antidepressants that's known to lower your seizure threshold, meaning it makes a seizure a little easier to trigger. That's why doctors are careful about the dose and avoid it in people with seizure risk. Rauwolscine, a stimulant cousin of yohimbine found in fat-burner and pre-workout products, may push in the same direction. Stacking the two could, in theory, add up and raise seizure risk a bit more.

I'll be honest, this concern comes from animal lab research, not from people, so it's mostly theoretical. Still, since both can also rev you up (faster heart rate, jitteriness, anxiety, trouble sleeping), I'd run this combo by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

Rauwolscine (alpha-yohimbine) is a stimulant alkaloid closely related to yohimbine that is marketed mainly in fat-burning and pre-workout supplements. Human evidence for its benefits is very limited, and it can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause anxiety, so it should be used with caution and is not recommended for people with heart conditions, anxiety, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

What Is Bupropion Used For?

Brand names: Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Zyban, Wellbutrin XL, Aplenzin, Forfivo XL

Bupropion is FDA-approved to treat major depressive disorder (MDD) — a form of clinical depression. Extended-release formulations (XL and hydrobromide versions, including Aplenzin) are also approved for the prevention of seasonal affective disorder (SAD), the pattern of depression that tends to arrive in autumn and winter.

Not all formulations share every indication. Aplenzin (bupropion hydrobromide extended-release) and bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets (XL) are indicated for both MDD and SAD. Bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets (SR) and bupropion hydrochloride immediate-release tablets are indicated for MDD only.
