ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: Pentoxifylline already works by thinning your blood so it flows more easily through small vessels in your hands and feet. Reishi, at higher doses, may have a mild blood-thinning effect of its own. Stack the two together and you could, in theory, nudge up your risk of bleeding or bruising more easily. Think nosebleeds, bleeding gums, bruises that show up without a clear reason, or cuts that take longer to stop.
Now, the honest part: this caution comes from lab and animal research, not strong human studies, so it's more theoretical than proven. Interestingly, about 1.5 grams of reishi a day didn't affect platelets, but 3 grams a day did, so dose matters. Before you add reishi, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pentoxifylline page
“Pentoxifylline (Trental) improves blood flow in people with poor leg circulation partly by making platelets less sticky, so treat this list as one to read carefully rather than skim. Of the 218 supplements on file, 202 can also slow clotting, which means adding them stacks bleeding risk on bleeding risk.”

About Reishi Mushroom
What is Reishi Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Fatigue and general well-being
- Stress and sleep
- Inflammation
- Heart and cholesterol health
Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
About Pentoxifylline
What Is Pentoxifylline Used For?
Brand name: Trental
Pentoxifylline Extended-Release Tablets are used to treat intermittent claudication — leg pain, cramping, or fatigue that happens during walking because narrowed arteries aren't delivering enough blood to the muscles. The underlying cause is chronic occlusive arterial disease, a condition where the arteries in the limbs become blocked or narrowed over time.
Pentoxifylline can help improve walking distance and reduce symptoms, but it is not a substitute for procedures that physically open or bypass blocked arteries when those treatments are needed.
