Reishi Mushroom and Tenecteplase

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Tenecteplase

Tenecteplase falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind: tenecteplase (TNKase) is a powerful clot-busting drug given in the hospital during a heart attack. It works fast and strong to dissolve clots, and its biggest risk is bleeding. Reishi mushroom, at higher doses (around 3 grams a day), may slightly reduce how well your platelets clump together, which could add to that bleeding risk.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. This interaction is mostly theoretical, based on lab and animal findings, not strong human studies. Smaller reishi doses (about 1.5 grams) don't seem to affect platelets. Since tenecteplase is given by your medical team in an emergency, just be sure they know about any reishi or other supplements you take so they can watch you closely.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tenecteplase page

“Tenecteplase (TNKase) is a clot-busting drug given in the emergency room for strokes and heart attacks, so the real question is not what you would take alongside it but what is already in your system when the injection arrives. This list deserves genuine caution.”

About Reishi Mushroom

What is Reishi Mushroom?

Reishi Mushroom
  • Immune support
  • Fatigue and general well-being
  • Stress and sleep
  • Inflammation
  • Heart and cholesterol health

Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.
