ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Troglitazone
Troglitazone falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Reishi Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: troglitazone (Rezulin) is a diabetes medicine that helps lower your blood sugar. Reishi mushroom has been studied for its own possible blood sugar lowering effect, so the concern on file is that the two together could push your sugar down a little more than expected. If that happened, you might feel the usual signs of low blood sugar, like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or a fast heartbeat.
I want to keep this in perspective, though. This worry comes mainly from animal and lab studies. In people with type 2 diabetes, reishi hasn't reliably lowered fasting sugar, so the real-world risk looks low. Still, if you'd like to try reishi, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your glucose readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Troglitazone page
“Most people taking troglitazone (Rezulin) are managing type 2 diabetes, and this list reflects that. The great majority of the 280 flagged ingredients act on blood sugar, most lowering it and a few raising it, so pairing them with a diabetes medication makes glucose control less predictable and can tip it too low.”

About Reishi Mushroom
What is Reishi Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Fatigue and general well-being
- Stress and sleep
- Inflammation
- Heart and cholesterol health
Reishi is a traditional Asian mushroom widely used to support the immune system and overall wellness. Human evidence for most of its claimed benefits is limited or low-quality, so it should not replace proven treatments. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or take other medicines.

Natural Medicines records Troglitazone as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Reishi Mushroom — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
