Here's the gist: saffron itself may gently lower blood pressure. Since enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned) is already working to bring your pressure down, adding a saffron supplement could nudge it a little lower than expected. We call this an additive effect, meaning the two are pulling in the same direction.

If your blood pressure dips too far, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this interaction is theoretical and based mostly on animal and small studies, so it isn't a strong concern. A pinch of saffron in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd be more cautious. Before starting saffron capsules, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Saffron is a costly spice that has shown promise in early studies for mild-to-moderate depression and some mood and PMS symptoms, but most research uses small trials, so results are not definitive. About Enalapril

What Is Enalapril Used For?

Brand names: Vasotec, Epaned

Enalapril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children older than one month, and to treat symptomatic heart failure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

It is also used for asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction — when the heart's pumping ability is reduced but the person doesn't yet have obvious heart failure symptoms — to slow the progression to overt heart failure and reduce hospitalizations. Enalapril maleate oral solution (including Epaned) and enalapril maleate tablets (including Vasotec) share these three approved uses.
