Serdexmethylphenidate Chloride, Dexmethylphenidate Hydrochloride falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Same interacts with.

Taking SAMe with serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonin syndrome and other serotonergic side effects.
SAMe has serotonergic effects. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with SAMe might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders. In one case report, SAMe 100 mg intramuscularly was given daily with clomipramine (Anafranil) 25 mg per day. When the clomipramine dose was increased to 75 mg per day the patient experienced serotonin syndrome about 48-72 hours later, requiring hospitalization.

Here's the gist with Azstarys (which delivers dexmethylphenidate, a stimulant for ADHD) and SAM-e. SAM-e can gently nudge up serotonin activity in your brain, and stimulants like this one already raise certain brain chemicals. Stacking the two together may add up and, in rare cases, raise the risk of too much serotonin activity, sometimes called serotonin syndrome.

Honestly, this warning rests on very thin evidence, mostly a single case with a different medication, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, it's worth knowing the warning signs: jitteriness, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness, agitation, or feeling unusually restless. If you notice those, reach out for help. Before you start or stop SAM-e, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can look at your full medication list.

Brand name: Azstarys

Azstarys (serdexmethylphenidate/dexmethylphenidate) is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years of age and older. It is not recommended for children younger than 6 because they experience higher drug levels in the blood and more side effects at the same doses used in older patients.
