Budesonide, Formoterol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Schisandra interacts with.

Theoretically, schisandra might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research shows that schisandra inhibits CYP2C19, and animal research shows that schisandra increases the concentration of voriconazole, a CYP2C19 substrate. Theoretically, schisandra may also inhibit the metabolism of other CYP2C19 substrates. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture with Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) and schisandra. The concern on file is that schisandra may block an enzyme called CYP2C19 and let drugs that use it build up. The catch is that budesonide is mainly cleared by a different enzyme (CYP3A4), and most of these doses are inhaled, so very little reaches your bloodstream to begin with.

On top of that, this interaction comes only from lab and animal studies and has never been shown in people. So I'd put this one low on the worry list. Still, if you ever notice more than usual jitteriness, a racing heartbeat, or shakiness, mention it. It's always worth a quick check with your pharmacist before adding schisandra.

Here's the situation with Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) and Schisandra. Lab and animal studies hint that Schisandra may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. If that happened in people, it could clear certain medicines a little faster and make them work less well. Budesonide isn't a prodrug, so this would mean a slightly weaker effect, not a buildup.

The honest truth is this is theoretical only. It has never actually been shown in humans, and Symbicort is inhaled, so very little reaches the bloodstream to begin with. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if your asthma or COPD feels less controlled, more wheezing or shortness of breath, let your pharmacist or doctor know.
