Here's the idea behind this one. Golimumab (Simponi Aria) works by calming down an overactive immune system to ease the joint pain and swelling of conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis. Selenium, on the other hand, can give the immune system a little nudge in the opposite direction. So in theory, taking concentrated selenium could push back against what golimumab is trying to do, possibly leaving you with more stiffness, swelling, or flares.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's mostly based on lab and early research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Getting selenium from a normal diet is very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about a supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Golimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simponi Aria

Golimumab injection is used to treat several inflammatory conditions. Simponi (subcutaneous) is approved for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (in combination with methotrexate), active psoriatic arthritis, active ankylosing spondylitis, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 15 kg.

Simponi Aria (intravenous) is used for adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis. Both products target the same inflammation pathway but are given by different routes and are each approved for specific conditions — they are not interchangeable across all uses.
