Osimertinib Mesylate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Sesame interacts with.

Theoretically, sesame might alter the transport of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research suggests that sesamin, a constituent of sesame, can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version. Your osimertinib (Tagrisso) is carried around the body partly by a cellular pump called P-glycoprotein. Sesame contains a compound called sesamin that, in test-tube studies, can slow that pump down a little. If the pump slows, slightly more osimertinib could stay in your system, which in theory might nudge up its usual side effects like diarrhea, mouth sores, rash, dry skin, or tiredness.

The big caveat: this is only seen in lab dishes, never in real people, and it's rated a minor concern. Normal amounts of sesame in food (a sprinkle of seeds, a little oil, some tahini) are very unlikely to cause trouble. I'd just be a bit more thoughtful about concentrated sesame supplements. Since osimertinib is a serious cancer medicine, please run any new supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
