Medroxyprogesterone Acetate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down medroxyprogesterone. In lab dishes and animal studies, sulforaphane has been shown to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, the medication could clear a little more slowly and build up, which in theory might bump up progestin-type side effects like bloating, breast tenderness, mood changes, headache, or spotting.

The important part: this is theoretical. It has not actually been seen in humans, and the everyday amount of sulforaphane you get from eating broccoli is very unlikely to matter. A concentrated supplement is a different story, so if you're considering one, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Medroxyprogesterone Used For?

Brand names: Proclim, Cycrin, Curretab, Depo-Provera CI

Medroxyprogesterone is used for different conditions depending on the product form. The injectable forms — including Depo-Provera and intramuscular medroxyprogesterone acetate injectable suspension — are used to prevent pregnancy. Depo-subQ Provera 104 (the subcutaneous injection) is also approved to manage pain associated with endometriosis.

The oral tablets — sold under the brand Provera and as generic medroxyprogesterone acetate tablets — treat secondary amenorrhea (periods that have stopped) and abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormonal imbalance. The tablets are also used to prevent endometrial hyperplasia (abnormal thickening of the uterine lining) in postmenopausal women with a uterus who are taking daily conjugated estrogens.
