Why this applies to Naproxen

Naproxen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with naproxen and sulforaphane. Naproxen is partly processed by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, and lab and animal studies suggest sulforaphane can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in people, naproxen might hang around a bit longer than usual, which could nudge up its typical side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, or in some folks stomach irritation. Naproxen is an active drug, not a prodrug, so blocking this enzyme would lean toward a slightly stronger effect, not a weaker one.

The honest part: this is only theoretical and hasn't been shown in humans. Broccoli on your plate is no worry. If you take a concentrated sulforaphane supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
