Here's the concern with pairing Sweet Annie and capmatinib (Tabrecta): both can be hard on your liver. Capmatinib already carries a known risk of liver injury, and your oncology team likely checks your liver enzymes (those blood tests) before and during treatment. Sweet Annie has been reported to occasionally stress the liver too, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up and make liver irritation more likely.

I want to be honest that this is based on weak, mostly anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so it's a caution rather than a firm warning. Still, with a cancer drug this important, I'd play it safe. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and please run any Sweet Annie use by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Capmatinib Hydrochloride also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Your lung cancer medicine, capmatinib (Tabrecta), is cleared from your body mainly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Sweet Annie may bump into that same enzyme, but here's the honest part: the lab data points in two different directions. One compound in the herb (artemisinin) seems to speed up CYP3A4, which could lower capmatinib levels and make it work less well. Yet the whole extract seems to slow the enzyme, which could raise levels and increase side effects like nausea, swelling, tiredness, or liver irritation.

This is only test-tube evidence, so we truly don't know what happens in real people. Because capmatinib is a serious cancer drug, please don't add Sweet Annie without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

Tabrecta (capmatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — lung cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is only for patients whose tumors have a specific genetic change called a MET exon 14 skipping mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
