Here's the simple version: Co-codamol contains paracetamol (acetaminophen), and at high doses paracetamol is one of the more common causes of liver strain. Sweet Annie has its own reputation for occasionally being hard on the liver. So the worry is that taking both together could double up the stress on that one organ.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based mostly on scattered anecdotal reports, not strong studies, so for most people taking normal doses it likely isn't a big deal. Still, watch for warning signs like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness. Never exceed the paracetamol dose on the label, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.
