Why this applies to Vardenafil

Vardenafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Sweet Annie interacts with.

Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the situation with Sweet Annie and Levitra (vardenafil). Your body clears vardenafil using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and Sweet Annie may tug on that enzyme. The tricky part is the research points in two directions. One component, artemisinin, may speed the enzyme up (which could clear vardenafil faster and weaken it), while the whole-plant extract seems to slow the enzyme down (which could let vardenafil build up and bring on more flushing, headache, stuffy nose, or dizziness).

Honestly, this is based only on lab and test-tube data, so we don't really know how it plays out in real people. It's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Please don't stop or change either one on your own.

Vardenafil tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are both indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction — difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough for sex.

Sexual stimulation is required for vardenafil to work. It does not cause an erection on its own.
