Some Colestipol Products Have a Food Rule — Sweet Vernal Grass Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Colestipol says to take it on an empty stomach. Most supplements — Sweet Vernal Grass included — are taken with a meal, so the easy mistake is swallowing both together at breakfast. Where that rule applies, keep Colestipol on its own and move Sweet Vernal Grass to a meal later in the day.

Colestipol — available as oral suspension and tablets under brands including Colestid, Flavored Colestid, and Colestipol Hydrochloride — is used as part of a broader treatment plan (including diet) to lower elevated LDL cholesterol in adults with primary hypercholesterolemia (a condition where LDL cholesterol stays high despite dietary changes).
