Amobarbital falls under ANTICONVULSANTS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Here's the concern with pairing Thuja and amobarbital (Amytal). Amobarbital is a barbiturate that calms brain activity, and one of its uses is to help control seizures. Thuja contains a compound called thujone, which in higher amounts may do the opposite by making the brain a bit more prone to seizures. So in theory, Thuja could work against what your amobarbital is trying to do and make a seizure more likely.

I want to be honest that this is based on weak, mostly theoretical evidence, not strong human studies. Still, since amobarbital is a serious medication, I'd skip concentrated Thuja oil or supplements and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any Thuja product.

What is Thuja?

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
