Delafloxacin (IV) falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja products can contains significant amounts of thujone, a neurotoxin. Theoretically, patients taking drugs that lower the seizure threshold might be at greater risk of seizure if they also take thuja. Advise patients taking these drugs to avoid thuja products. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the concern with combining Thuja and your IV antibiotic delafloxacin (Baxdela). Fluoroquinolone antibiotics like this one can lower the seizure threshold on their own, meaning they can make seizures slightly more likely in people who are prone to them. Thuja products can contain thujone, a compound that is toxic to nerves and may also nudge that threshold lower. Stacking the two together could, in theory, raise the seizure risk a bit more.

To be honest, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since you're being treated for a real infection, it's safest to skip concentrated thuja supplements and oil for now. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Baxdela (delafloxacin) injection is approved for adults with acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) — serious infections of the skin and underlying tissue — caused by a range of bacteria, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).

Baxdela injection is also approved for adults with community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP) — pneumonia picked up outside of a hospital — caused by bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and several others.
