Thuja might stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking thuja might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the thinking on this pair. Infliximab-Qbtx (Ixifi) is a biologic that works by quieting down your immune system, specifically by blocking a protein called TNF-alpha. It's used for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and psoriasis. Thuja, on the other hand, has been studied in the lab for possibly stimulating immune activity. So the concern is that thuja could work against what your infliximab is trying to do, potentially making it less effective and letting your symptoms (joint pain, gut flares, skin plaques) creep back.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical caution based on how these things work, not on real patient studies. Still, since infliximab is a serious medication, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding thuja.

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support.
