Ocrelizumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja might stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking thuja might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the idea behind this one. Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) works by quieting down part of your immune system so it stops attacking the nerves in MS. Thuja, on the other hand, contains compounds that some lab studies suggest might stimulate the immune system. So in theory, those two are pulling in opposite directions, and thuja could blunt the benefit you're getting from your infusions.

I want to be honest with you, though: this concern is purely theoretical and comes from test-tube and pharmacology reasoning, not from real-world cases. We don't have human evidence showing it actually weakens ocrelizumab. Still, because thuja's benefits are unproven and the oil can be toxic, I'd skip it and run any supplement past your MS team or pharmacist first.

What is Thuja?

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Ocrelizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Ocrevus

Ocrevus (ocrelizumab) is given by intravenous (IV) infusion and is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) — including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting MS, and active secondary progressive MS — as well as adults with primary progressive MS (PPMS).

Ocrevus is also approved for pediatric patients 10 years of age and older who weigh at least 25 kg (about 55 lbs) and have relapsing-remitting MS.
