Ustekinumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja might stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking thuja might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the thinking behind this one. Stelara works by calming down specific parts of your immune system (it blocks two signaling proteins, IL-12 and IL-23) so your body stops attacking your skin or gut. Thuja is believed to do the opposite, nudging the immune system to be more active. So in theory, taking thuja could push against what Stelara is trying to accomplish, which might mean less relief for your psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, or Crohn's flare.

I'll be honest with you though: this concern is theoretical, based on how thuja behaves in lab studies, not on real patients taking both together. There's no proof it actually weakens Stelara in people. Still, since thuja oil also carries its own toxicity risk, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing the two.

Thuja, also called northern white cedar or arborvitae, is a tree whose leaf and oil have a long history in folk and homeopathic medicine, especially for warts and immune support. Solid human evidence for these uses is very limited, and the undiluted oil contains thujone, which can be toxic. What Is Ustekinumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stelara

Ustekinumab injection treats four immune-related conditions. It is approved for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It also treats moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in adults and children 2 years of age and older.

For moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, ustekinumab injection is approved for adult patients only. A prescriber will determine which condition is being treated and choose the appropriate product, route, and dosing schedule.
