Norgestrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down norgestrel, the progestin in your birth control pill. Lab studies hint that a compound in thunder god vine (triptolide) can slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, more of the hormone could linger in your system, which might bump up typical progestin side effects like spotting, breast tenderness, bloating, headaches, or mood changes.

The good news: this is purely theoretical right now. It's only been seen in test tubes, never reported in actual people, so I don't want you to panic. Still, thunder god vine itself can be risky and needs medical oversight. Before combining the two, please check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh it for you.

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
