Desipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for desipramine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to help break this antidepressant down. Lab studies suggest a compound in thunder god vine (triptolide) can slow that enzyme. In theory, if the enzyme works slower, desipramine could clear out less easily and build up a bit more than usual.

If levels crept up, you might notice stronger tricyclic side effects like dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, or a faster heartbeat. I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it has not actually been reported in people. Still, since thunder god vine itself can be toxic, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

Desipramine tablets are not approved for use in children. Adolescents and elderly patients may be prescribed it in certain circumstances, but at lower doses and under close supervision.
