Naproxen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea: your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear naproxen out of your system. In lab dishes, a compound in Thunder God Vine called triptolide appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in your body, naproxen could hang around a bit longer and its effects could feel a little stronger.

For naproxen, that mostly means a higher chance of the usual NSAID side effects, things like stomach upset, heartburn, an increased risk of stomach bleeding, fluid retention, or higher blood pressure. I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. Since Thunder God Vine itself can be risky, please use it only with your doctor's guidance and let your pharmacist know you take both.

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
