Ponatinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Ponatinib (Iclusig). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this leukemia medicine out of your system. In lab testing, a compound in thunder god vine called triptolide seemed to slow that same enzyme down. If that holds true in people, ponatinib could clear more slowly and build up to higher levels than intended.

That matters because ponatinib already carries a risk of serious side effects, like blood clots, high blood pressure, liver problems, and heart issues, and higher levels could make those more likely. To be clear, this is theoretical and based only on test-tube studies, not real patient reports. Still, with a powerful cancer drug, please don't combine them without checking with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Ponatinib

What Is Ponatinib Used For?

Brand name: Iclusig

Ponatinib, sold as Iclusig, treats two types of blood cancer in adults. For Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL), Iclusig is used in combination with chemotherapy for newly diagnosed patients, or as a single agent for patients who cannot take other kinase inhibitors or who have a specific mutation called T315I. For chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), Iclusig treats chronic phase CML when at least two prior kinase inhibitors have not worked or caused intolerable side effects, accelerated or blast phase CML when no other kinase inhibitors are suitable, and any phase of CML with the T315I mutation.

Iclusig is not approved or recommended for newly diagnosed chronic phase CML.
