Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Effient
Effient falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the gist for Effient (prasugrel): the real concern in our database isn't that your blood thinner changes the thyroid extract's power directly. It's a timing and absorption issue. When you swallow Effient (or any pill, food, or mineral) too close to a thyroid product, it can get in the way of how well the thyroid hormone is absorbed, making the thyroid dose less predictable.
This is rated minor, and the easy fix is spacing. Thyroid hormone is best taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 to 60 minutes before other pills like Effient. Effient itself still works to keep platelets from clumping. Since thyroid extract doses aren't standardized, I'd really run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before relying on it.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Thyroid Extract or Effient, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Effient
This page covers Thyroid Extract only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Effient page lists 295 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Danshen (major), Grapefruit (major), Piracetam (major) and St. John's Wort (major).
By severity: 5 major · 248 moderate · 42 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Effient page
“Effient (prasugrel) keeps platelets from forming clots, usually after a stent or a heart attack, and I would not pair supplements with it casually. Roughly 200 ingredients on this list can thin the blood further and raise bleeding risk, including two of the five rated major.”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Prasugrel
What Is Prasugrel Used For?
Brand name: Prasugrel
Prasugrel is used to reduce blood clot–related heart events, including clots forming in a stent (stent thrombosis). It is for people with acute coronary syndrome who are going to be treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI, a procedure to open blocked heart arteries).
This includes people with unstable angina or a non-ST-elevation heart attack (NSTEMI), and people with an ST-elevation heart attack (STEMI) treated with primary or delayed PCI. Both Effient and generic Prasugrel tablets carry this use.
