Mitomycin falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.

Food and medications can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption. Some foods, particularly those high in fiber or containing certain minerals like calcium or iron, can bind to thyroid hormones and reduce their absorption in the digestive tract. Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here the concern actually runs the other way from what you might expect. The interaction on file is about other things blocking your thyroid extract from being absorbed, not about thyroid hormone changing how mitomycin works. Things like calcium, iron, high-fiber foods, or antacids can grab onto thyroid hormone in your gut and keep it from getting in, so it works less well.

Mitomycin is different in one big way: it is a chemotherapy drug given by injection or into the bladder, not a pill you swallow. Because it does not rely on stomach absorption, your thyroid extract is very unlikely to change how it works, and vice versa. Still, since mitomycin is serious chemo, please run any supplement past your oncology team first.

Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. About Mitomycin

What Is Mitomycin Used For?

Brand names: Mutamycin, Mitosol, Jelmyto

Mitomycin (and its brand Mutamycin) is used intravenously in combination with other chemotherapy drugs to treat disseminated adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer that has spread) of the stomach or pancreas, when other treatments have not worked. It is not intended to replace surgery or radiation therapy.

Mitomycin is also the active ingredient in other products for different uses: Jelmyto treats low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer (cancer of the upper urinary tract); Zusduri treats recurrent low-grade intermediate-risk non-muscle invasive bladder cancer; and Mitosol is used as a surgical aid during certain glaucoma eye surgery. These are separate products with distinct indications and are not interchangeable with the intravenous injection form.
