Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Bisoprolol
Bisoprolol falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Tinospora Cordifolia interacts with.
In vitro research shows that Tinospora cordifolia extract inhibits CYP2D6 at high concentrations. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Giloy and your bisoprolol. Your body partly clears bisoprolol using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. In test tube studies, Tinospora cordifolia slowed that enzyme down when used at high concentrations. If that happened in a real person, bisoprolol could build up a bit and act stronger than usual. With this beta blocker, that might show up as a slower heart rate, lightheadedness, unusual tiredness, or blood pressure dipping lower than you'd like.
The good news: this is only a theoretical concern from lab work, and it hasn't been seen in actual patients. It's not a reason to panic. Still, since Tinospora has been linked to liver injury too, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two.
