Here's the simple version: tragacanth is basically a thick plant gum that swells into a slippery gel in your gut. When you swallow a pill like nilutamide around the same time, that gel could in theory grab onto it and change how much actually gets absorbed into your body. It might slow it down, lower it, raise it, or do nothing at all, so the direction isn't predictable.

Why this matters with nilutamide: you want a steady, reliable amount working against your prostate cancer. If absorption drops, you may get less benefit; if it climbs, side effects like nausea, hot flashes, or trouble seeing in dim light could be more noticeable. To stay safe, a common tip is to take tragacanth 30 to 60 minutes after your nilutamide. This is theoretical, based on how the fiber behaves, not on hard studies, so please run it by your pharmacist or oncologist first.

What Is Nilutamide Used For?

Brand names: Nilandron, Anandron

Nilutamide tablets are used together with surgical castration (removal of the testicles) to treat metastatic prostate cancer — prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (Stage D2). It is not used alone; it works as part of this combined treatment approach.

For the best results, treatment with nilutamide should begin on the same day as surgical castration, or the day after.
