Why this applies to Nilutamide

Nilutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 include proton pump inhibitors including omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), and pantoprazole (Protonix); diazepam (Valium); carisoprodol (Soma); nelfinavir (Viracept); and others.

Here's the gist for your prostate cancer medicine. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help process nilutamide, and lab research hints that lentinan might speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear nilutamide a little faster, which in theory might lower its levels and make it work less well at blocking androgen and holding the cancer in check.

The honest part: this is only test-tube and animal data, and it has never actually been seen in people taking lentinan. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but I also wouldn't add a lentinan supplement on your own. Please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first so they can keep an eye on your treatment.

What Is Nilutamide Used For?

Brand names: Nilandron, Anandron

Nilutamide tablets are used together with surgical castration (removal of the testicles) to treat metastatic prostate cancer — prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (Stage D2). It is not used alone; it works as part of this combined treatment approach.

For the best results, treatment with nilutamide should begin on the same day as surgical castration, or the day after.
