Warfarin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.

Here's the gist for warfarin. In lab studies, lentinan from shiitake mushrooms appears to speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways that helps clear warfarin. If lentinan nudges that enzyme to work faster, your body could break down warfarin a little quicker, which might lower its blood-thinning effect and raise the chance of a clot.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is only test-tube and animal evidence, and it hasn't actually been seen in people. Still, warfarin is a narrow window drug where even small shifts can matter, and your INR is the number to watch. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just loop in whoever manages your warfarin before adding lentinan so they can check your INR more closely if needed.

Some drugs metabolized by CYP2C19 include proton pump inhibitors including omeprazole (Prilosec), lansoprazole (Prevacid), and pantoprazole (Protonix); diazepam (Valium); carisoprodol (Soma); nelfinavir (Viracept); and others.

Here's the gist for warfarin. Your body partly clears warfarin using a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. Lab and animal research hints that lentinan may speed up that enzyme. If that held true in people, your body could break warfarin down a bit faster, which might make it less effective at thinning your blood and could nudge your INR lower, raising clot risk.

I want to be straight with you: this is theoretical. It hasn't actually been seen in humans, and warfarin is mostly handled by a different enzyme (CYP2C9). Still, warfarin is a narrow-margin drug where small shifts matter, so don't start or stop anything on your own. Loop in your doctor or pharmacist, and keep up with your regular INR checks.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Brand name: Warfarin

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.

In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
