Norethindrone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for Norethindrone, which is an active progestin hormone (not a prodrug). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down. Some lab research hints that lentinan might speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the hormone a bit faster, which might lower its levels and make it work less reliably. For norethindrone, that could mean breakthrough spotting, irregular bleeding, or, if you rely on it for birth control, less dependable protection.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's only seen in test-tube and animal studies, never confirmed in people, so the real-world risk is likely small. Still, if you notice unexpected bleeding, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Norethindrone Used For?

Brand names: Aygestin, Norlutin, Nor-QD, Micronor, Norlutate, Camila, Errin, Jolivette, Nora-BE

Norethindrone is a progestin-only oral contraceptive used to prevent pregnancy. It is taken every day, continuously, without hormone-free breaks — unlike combination birth control pills.

Gallifrey (norethindrone acetate tablets, 5 mg) is a different, higher-dose formulation approved for three additional conditions: secondary amenorrhea (periods that have stopped), endometriosis, and abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance when no structural cause such as fibroids or uterine cancer is present. Gallifrey is not approved or recommended for use alongside estrogen therapy in postmenopausal women for endometrial protection.
