Why this applies to Triazolam

Triazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the simple version. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear triazolam (Halcion) out of your system. Some lab research hints that lentinan might rev up that enzyme a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could break down triazolam faster, leaving less of it around to do its job. The practical worry would be a weaker effect, meaning your sleep aid might not help you fall asleep or stay asleep as well as usual.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This comes from test-tube and animal studies only, and it has never actually been reported in people, so it may not matter at all. Still, if you notice your Halcion isn't working like it used to after starting lentinan, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

What Is Triazolam Used For?

Triazolam tablets are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Treatment is generally intended for 7 to 10 days. Halcion (a brand of triazolam) is specifically indicated for this same short-term use in adults.

Using triazolam for more than 2 to 3 weeks requires a full re-evaluation by your doctor to rule out an underlying medical or psychiatric condition driving the sleep problem.
