Why this applies to Nilutamide

Nilutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Eurycoma Longifolia interacts with.

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for nilutamide (Nilandron). Your body partly clears this prostate cancer medicine using a liver enzyme called CYP2C19. In a lab dish, tongkat ali (Eurycoma longifolia) only weakly slowed that same enzyme down. In theory, slowing it could let nilutamide build up a little, which might mean more of its usual side effects like nausea, hot flashes, trouble seeing in dim light, or feeling tired.

The honest part: this is theoretical and has only been seen in test tubes, not in real people. It's rated a minor concern. Still, since nilutamide is a serious cancer drug, I'd run any supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first rather than adding it on your own.

What Is Nilutamide Used For?

Nilutamide tablets are used together with surgical castration (removal of the testicles) to treat metastatic prostate cancer — prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (Stage D2). It is not used alone; it works as part of this combined treatment approach.

For the best results, treatment with nilutamide should begin on the same day as surgical castration, or the day after.
