Why this applies to Almotriptan

Almotriptan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.

Laboratory research suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for a decrease in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking lentinan.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist for your migraine medication. Almotriptan is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab studies, lentinan seems to speed up that enzyme. If that held true in people, your body might clear almotriptan a bit faster, which could make it work less well, so your migraine relief might feel weaker or shorter than usual.

The reassuring part: this is based only on test-tube and animal research, and it has never actually been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Almotriptan isn't a prodrug, so the direction here is reduced effect, not extra side effects. If you take both and notice your usual dose just isn't cutting the headache, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
