Lentinan + Estradiol, Progesterone
Estradiol, Progesterone brand name: Bijuvanda.
Estradiol, Progesterone falls into 2 drug categories that Lentinan can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Laboratory evidence suggests that lentinan might increase the activity of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Lentinan interacts with whole categories of medication. Estradiol, Progesterone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Lentinan in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Estradiol, Progesterone
Estradiol, Progesterone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Lentinan interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 include amitriptyline (Elavil), haloperidol (Haldol), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), theophylline (Theo-Dur, others), verapamil (Calan, Isoptin, others), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your Bijuva (estradiol with progesterone). Lab and animal studies hint that lentinan may rev up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which helps clear estradiol out of your body. If that enzyme works faster, your estrogen levels could drop a bit, which in theory might make your hormone therapy less effective. You could notice more of the symptoms you're treating, like hot flashes, night sweats, or sleep trouble creeping back.
That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This has only been seen in the lab, never reported in real people, so it may not matter at all in practice. It's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan, but please don't stop or change your Bijuva on your own.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Estradiol, Progesterone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on combining lentinan with Bijuva (estradiol plus progesterone). Both of these hormones are broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube and animal research, lentinan seems to speed that enzyme up. If that holds true in people, your body could clear these hormones a little faster, which might mean lower hormone levels and weaker results, like a return of hot flashes, night sweats, or breakthrough symptoms you were trying to control.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this has only been seen in the lab, never confirmed in actual patients, so it may not matter at all. Still, since hormone dosing is something you want to stay steady, just loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding lentinan so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

About Lentinan
What is Lentinan?
- Immune support
- Used alongside cancer treatment
- Anti-inflammatory
- General wellness/tonic
- Antimicrobial support
Lentinan is a beta-glucan polysaccharide from shiitake mushrooms that is studied mainly as an immune-modulating add-on to cancer chemotherapy, where it is given by injection in a few countries. Evidence for oral supplements is limited, and quality varies widely between products. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
