Almotriptan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the simple version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down almotriptan, and CBD can slow that enzyme down. When that happens, almotriptan can hang around in your system longer than usual, so its effects (and side effects) may feel a bit stronger.

For almotriptan, that could mean more of its typical effects like dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or a tight, flushed, tingling feeling. Almotriptan also narrows blood vessels, so I'd be a little more cautious if you have heart or blood pressure concerns. This isn't a reason to panic, and an occasional migraine dose is usually low risk, but please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you use CBD regularly or in higher concentrated doses.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
