Ivabradine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the gist for you. Your body clears ivabradine mostly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. CBD can slow that enzyme down, so the ivabradine doesn't get broken down as quickly and can build up to higher levels than expected. Ivabradine is an active drug (not a prodrug), so more of it in your blood means a stronger effect.

With ivabradine, the main thing to watch is your heart rate dropping too low (bradycardia). You might feel dizzy, lightheaded, very tired, or notice those brief flashes of brightness in your vision called phosphenes. Please don't start, stop, or adjust anything on your own. Just loop in your pharmacist or doctor first, since they can keep an eye on your heart rate and pick a CBD product and dose that makes sense for you.

About Ivabradine

What Is Ivabradine Used For?

Brand names: Procoralan, Coralan, Corlentor, Corlanor

Ivabradine (including the brand Corlanor) is used in adults with stable, symptomatic chronic heart failure with reduced pumping function to reduce the risk of being hospitalized for worsening heart failure. It is prescribed when the heart is beating too fast at rest and the patient is either already on the highest tolerated dose of a beta-blocker or cannot take one.

Corlanor is also approved to treat stable, symptomatic heart failure caused by dilated cardiomyopathy (an enlarged, weakened heart muscle) in children ages 6 months and older who have an elevated heart rate.
