Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP2C9. In human studies, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of topiramate and losartan, CYP2C9 substrates. Concomitant use of cannabidiol with CYP2C9 substrates may increase the risk for adverse effects from these substrates.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help break down trimipramine, and CBD can slow that enzyme down. When that happens, trimipramine may clear out more slowly and build up a bit higher than usual in your blood. Trimipramine isn't a prodrug, so this means a stronger effect, not a weaker one.

In real life, that could show up as more of this drug's typical side effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness when standing, or a faster heartbeat. The evidence here is solid for the CYP2C9 effect, though it's been best studied with other medicines, not trimipramine itself. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on you.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
