Uzara and Fosinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

DIURETIC DRUGS

Why this applies to Fosinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide

Fosinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Uzara interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics and uzara can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about Monopril HCT: the hydrochlorothiazide part is a water pill that can slowly lower your potassium level. Uzara root contains natural compounds that act a lot like heart medications (cardiac glycosides). When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those glycoside-type compounds, which in theory could nudge you toward heart rhythm problems, nausea, or feeling unusually weak or dizzy.

I want to be honest that this concern is theoretical, based on how these substances behave rather than real-world reports. Still, since Uzara affects the heart and HCTZ can shift your potassium, I wouldn't pair them on your own. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you have any heart concerns.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fosinopril, Hydrochlorothiazide page

“Monopril HCT combines two blood pressure medicines, the ACE inhibitor fosinopril and the water pill hydrochlorothiazide, which is why I read its supplement list with genuine wariness rather than a shrug. Eleven of the 238 ingredients on file carry a major rating and deserve your attention first, while most of the 200 rated moderate eit…”
