White Mulberry + Phenelzine Sulfate
Phenelzine Sulfate brand name: Nardil.
We found no known interaction between White Mulberry and Phenelzine Sulfate in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
White Mulberry and Phenelzine Sulfate
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Phenelzine Sulfate and White Mulberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
White Mulberry safety at a glance
Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
White mulberry is not known to have many clinically significant drug interactions.
While our drug-herb interaction checker does list potential interactions with antidiabetic drugs and drugs that are affected by a protein known as OCT2, it is generally thought these are clinically insignificant for most individuals as they are theoretical and have not been seen in humans.
Nevertheless, it is important to be cautious if you take any drug that our tool shows an interaction for.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Phenelzine Sulfate
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Phenelzine Sulfate is filed under 6 classifications — including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (maois), antidepressant drugs, serotonergic drugs. White Mulberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and organic cation transporter 2 (oct2) substrates (moderate) — and none of Phenelzine Sulfate’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.
White Mulberry Does Interact With Other Medications
White Mulberry has 87 moderate known drug interactions in our database — Phenelzine Sulfate isn’t one of them. If you take anything else, check it against the full list below.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Phenelzine Sulfate page
“Few medications demand as much dietary and supplement care as phenelzine sulfate (Nardil), an older MAOI antidepressant, and this list backs that up, with 18 of its 144 recorded interactions rated major. The two dominant themes are sedation and blood pressure.”

About White Mulberry
What is White Mulberry?
- Blood sugar support
- High cholesterol
- Weight management
- Antioxidant support
- High blood pressure (traditional use)
White mulberry leaf is most studied for helping blunt the rise in blood sugar after meals, but the human evidence is limited and not strong. It is generally well tolerated as a food and tea, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially if you take diabetes medicine.
Morus alba · Moraceae · Leaves, fruit (berries), root bark, and twigs · Capsules, tablets, leaf tea, powdered leaf extract, dried fruit, liquid extracts
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether White Mulberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our White Mulberry record says about it on its own.
White Mulberry: dosing
There is no officially established standard dose for white mulberry supplements. Doses used in studies have varied widely depending on the plant part and extract, and there is not enough consistent research to recommend a specific milligram amount. If you choose to use it, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the suggested amount.

About Phenelzine
What Is Phenelzine Used For?
Brand name: Nardil
Phenelzine is used to treat depression — specifically the types described as atypical, nonendogenous, or neurotic depression. This often includes people who have a mix of anxiety and depression, or who have phobic or hypochondriacal features (strong fears about illness or physical symptoms).
It is generally not the first antidepressant a doctor will try. It is best suited for patients who have already tried other antidepressants without enough relief. There is less evidence supporting its use in severe depression with classic biological features (called endogenous depression).
Most-Reported Side Effects for Phenelzine Sulfate
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (1,563 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.

Phenelzine Sulfate Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Phenelzine Sulfate as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with White Mulberry — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
