What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Alpha Brain Instant Peach Flavor against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Low disclosure
Alpha Brain Instant contains 12 active ingredients designed for cognitive support. Vitamin B6 supports nerve function and red blood cell formation.
L-Leucine, L-Tyrosine, and L-Theanine are amino acids that play roles in neurotransmitter production and stress response. Bioperine is black pepper extract added to enhance absorption of other compounds.
Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid that supports cell membranes. Bacopa is an herbal extract traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine.
Oat Straw Extract comes from the whole oat plant. Huperzine A is an alkaloid compound.
AC-11 is a Cat's Claw extract. L-Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC) is a choline compound.
The product also contains three proprietary blends (Onnit Flow, Focus, and Fuel blends) that group additional components together. Inactive ingredients include natural flavors, citric acid, monk fruit extract, vegetable juice, and rebaudioside A.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product does is mixed and varies by ingredient. Some components have stronger support than others.
Bacopa, phosphatidylserine, and huperzine A are rated as possibly effective for cognitive decline or Alzheimer's disease, though the evidence is not conclusive. Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer's disease.
L-Theanine is possibly effective for cognitive function. Oat Straw has likely effective evidence for heart health and cholesterol levels, not brain function.
For most other claimed cognitive uses — memory, focus, general brain performance — the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate, meaning research is limited or inconclusive. The product contains real active compounds, but we cannot say from the data we hold that it will improve your thinking, memory, or focus.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most ingredients in this product are generally well tolerated at standard doses. Vitamin B6 is safe at normal amounts but can harm nerves at very high doses over time.
L-Theanine can cause headache and drowsiness in some people. Bacopa may cause gastrointestinal upset like nausea, diarrhea, or bloating in 12–30% of people who take it.
Huperzine A can cause cholinergic side effects (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness) especially at higher doses. Cat's Claw has been rarely linked to kidney injury in case reports and may cause headache, fatigue, or insomnia.
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated but has been rarely associated with stroke with long-term use. Phosphatidylserine may cause insomnia, headache, or digestive upset.
Black pepper (Bioperine) is well tolerated at food amounts but less safety data exists for concentrated supplements. For pregnancy: Vitamin B6 is rated likely safe and possibly unsafe (mixed evidence), so discuss with your doctor.
L-Theanine, Bacopa, Huperzine A, and Cat's Claw all lack enough safety data — the safety notes advise against use in pregnancy. Oat Straw is likely safe in pregnancy.
For breastfeeding: data is insufficient for most ingredients, and safety notes advise caution or avoidance for L-Theanine, Bacopa, Huperzine A, Cat's Claw, and phosphatidylserine.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check your medications against these drug types: blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs and calcium channel blockers), seizure medications (phenytoin, phenobarbital), diabetes medications and insulin, blood thinners and clot-prevention drugs, heart medications including propranolol and amiodarone, statins and other cholesterol drugs, and any medication broken down by your liver's CYP enzymes (a huge category that includes many common drugs). Additionally check if you take immunosuppressants, cholinergic drugs, anticholinergic drugs, or theophylline.
If you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease, both vitamin B6 and L-Tyrosine may interfere. No interactions are documented for L-Leucine or Pterostilbene, as we hold no data for them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Alpha Brain Instant is a multi-ingredient nootropic (brain-support) supplement with some ingredients that have research behind them and others that lack strong evidence. The real concern is interactions — this product has a substantial number of them, mostly Moderate severity.
If you're on any regular medications, especially blood pressure drugs, seizure meds, diabetes drugs, blood thinners, or heart medications, check with your pharmacist before you add this. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor; several ingredients lack safety data for those periods.

Alpha Brain Instant Peach Flavor by Onnit Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Alpha Brain Instant by Onnit contains several ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern involves Bacopa, which theoretically may increase levels of drugs broken down by your liver's CYP enzymes (including many statins, blood thinners, and heart medications) — these are all Moderate severity interactions. Vitamin B6 at high doses can reduce how well seizure medications like phenytoin and phenobarbital work, and may add to the blood-pressure-lowering effects of blood pressure drugs.
L-Tyrosine may interfere with levodopa absorption and could add effects to thyroid hormone medications. Bioperine (from black pepper) may increase blood levels of several medications including the heart drug propranolol, the anti-seizure drug phenytoin, the antibiotic rifampin, and others.
L-Theanine may lower blood pressure additively with blood pressure drugs and theoretically could add sedative effects with CNS depressants. Phosphatidylserine and Huperzine A both affect acetylcholine and may interact with drugs that block or enhance acetylcholine activity.
Cat's Claw (AC-11) may affect CYP3A4-metabolized drugs, blood thinners, blood pressure control, and immunosuppressants. Oat Straw may lower blood sugar and could increase risk of low blood sugar with diabetes medications or insulin.

Altogether, these interactions span 1,471 individual medications.
We could not check L-Leucine and Pterostilbene — no interaction data is on file for them. The other ingredients' effectiveness claims come from research with varying strength of evidence, not clinical data on interactions.
Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the interaction checker below. If you take any blood pressure drugs, seizure medications, diabetes drugs, blood thinners, heart medications, or anything metabolized by your liver, that's especially important.

One clinical study in patients taking carbamazepine 300 mg or 500 mg twice daily shows that taking a single 20 mg dose of purified piperine, a constituent of black pepper, increases carbamazepine levels. Piperine may increase carbamazepine absorption by increasing blood flow to the GI tract, increasing the surface area of the small intestine, or inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) in the gut wall. Absorption was significantly increased by 7-10 mcg/mL/hour. The time to eliminate carbamazepine was also increased by 4-8 hours. Although carbamazepine levels were increased, this did not appear to increase side effects. In vitro research also shows that piperine can increase carbamazepine levels by 11% in a time-dependent manner.

In one case report, a patient taking cat's claw (at an unspecified dose) experienced increased serum levels of atazanavir, ritonavir, and saquinavir, all of which are CYP3A4 substrates. Levels returned to normal 15 days after discontinuation of the cat's claw supplement, suggesting inhibition of CYP3A4 by cat's claw. In contrast, animal research suggests that rhynchophylline, an alkaloid contained in cat's claw, induces CYP3A expression and accelerates the metabolism of nirmatrelvir, the active component in the nirmatrelvir/ritonavir combination product.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, cat's claw might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In human and laboratory research, cat's claw has been shown to have immunostimulating activity. It stimulates phagocytosis and increases respiratory cellular activity and the mobility of leukocytes. Theoretically, this could interfere with the activity of immunosuppressant medications.

Bacopa aerial parts extract
Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use might decrease the effectiveness of both agents.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels, which could counteract the effects of anticholinergic drugs. Similarly, anticholinergic drugs might counteract the cholinergic effects of bacopa.
Cevimeline (Evoxac)
Theoretically, bacopa might increase the effects and adverse effects of cevimeline.
In one case, a 58-year-old female taking cevimeline long-term for Sjogren syndrome experienced hyperhidrosis, malaise, nausea, and tachycardia shortly after taking a single dose of bacopa. Symptoms resolved after two days. Cevimeline is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6 and CYP3A4, and researchers theorize that bacopa may have inhibited these isoenzymes. However, it is unclear if bacopa causes clinically significant inhibition of either CYP2D6 or CYP3A4.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of bacopa with other cholinergic drugs might have additive effects.
Bacopa seems to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels. Theoretically, this could result in additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP1A2 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence shows that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP1A2, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.

Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
Research on the effect of bacopa extracts on CYP2C9 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and non-competitively inhibit CYP2C9, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, bacopa might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Research on the effects of bacopa extracts on CYP3A4 enzymes is conflicting. Some in vitro evidence suggests that bacopa extract can moderately and competitively inhibit CYP3A4, while other in vitro evidence suggests that any effect is unlikely to be clinically significant.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, bacopa might have additive effects when used with thyroid hormone.
Animal research suggests that bacopa increases thyroxine (T4) levels in mice by about 40%.
L-Theanine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.

Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically interfere with the activity of anticholinergic agents.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, phosphatidylserine might have additive effects with cholinergic drugs.
Phosphatidylserine is thought to increase acetylcholine levels, which could theoretically lead to additive cholinergic effects when used with cholinergic drugs.
Toothed Clubmoss aerial parts extract
Anticholinergic Drugs
In animal models, toothed clubmoss and huperzine A, an active constituent of toothed clubmoss, reversed cognitive deficits induced by scopolamine. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and toothed clubmoss might decrease the effectiveness of toothed clubmoss or the anticholinergic drug.
Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane).
Cholinergic Drugs
Huperzine A, a constituent of toothed clubmoss, has demonstrated acetylcholinesterase inhibitory properties. Theoretically, concurrent use of toothed clubmoss with cholinergic drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of cholinergic side effects.
Cholinergic drugs include bethanechol (Urecholine), donepezil (Aricept), echothiophate (Phospholine Iodide), edrophonium (Enlon, Reversol, Tensilon), neostigmine (Prostigmin), physostigmine (Antilirium), pyridostigmine (Mestinon, Regonol), succinylcholine (Anectine, Quelicin), and tacrine (Cognex).
Vitamin B6
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Theoretically, vitamin B6 might increase the photosensitivity caused by amiodarone.
Despite initial case reports suggesting that pyridoxine may have a protective effect against amiodarone-induced photosensitivity, preliminary clinical research suggests that pyridoxine may actually exacerbate this adverse effect.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, vitamin B6 may have additive effects when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Research in hypertensive rats shows that vitamin B6 can decrease systolic blood pressure. Similarly, clinical research in patients with hypertension shows that taking high doses of vitamin B6 may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure, possibly by reducing plasma levels of epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Phenobarbital (Luminal)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenobarbital.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenobarbital, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenobarbital to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
High doses of vitamin B6 may reduce the levels and clinical effects of phenytoin.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that vitamin B6 200 mg daily can reduce plasma levels of phenytoin, possibly by increasing metabolism. It is not known whether lower doses have any effect. Advise people taking phenytoin to avoid high doses of vitamin B6.
Levodopa
Vitamin B6 may increase the metabolism of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) enhances the metabolism of levodopa, reducing its clinical effects. However, this interaction does not occur when carbidopa is used concurrently with levodopa (Sinemet). Therefore, it is not likely to be a problem in most people.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, oats may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Consuming oats can decrease blood glucose in patients with diabetes. In those who require insulin, taking oats 100 grams daily for 2 days reduces the insulin dose required to achieve metabolic control.
Insulin
Concomitant use of oats and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In patients with insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes, taking oats 100 grams daily for 2 days reduces the insulin dose required to achieve metabolic control.
L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
L-Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine
Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)
Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
