Body Ingredients & Drug Interactions

What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Body against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: organic microalgae, a form of spirulina blue-green algae. The capsule also includes pullulan, an inactive ingredient that serves as the capsule material itself.
Does it work?
Not established
The data we hold shows spirulina blue-green algae is possibly effective for high blood pressure (hypertension). For acne, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), iron deficiency anemia, and arsenic poisoning, the evidence is insufficient to rate — we don't have reliable data showing whether it works for those conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, spirulina blue-green algae is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects reported include abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, flatulence, headache, nausea, and vomiting — though these tend to be mild.
Allergic reactions are possible, including rashes, itching, and in rare cases anaphylaxis. A few cases of mild gum bleeding and bruising have been reported in people taking spirulina daily.
One important caution: the quality of blue-green algae products varies widely, and some can be contaminated with toxins or heavy metals. Safety data on this supplement is limited, and contamination risk is a real concern — something worth discussing with your pharmacist before you start.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin, immunosuppressants, or diabetes medications — spirulina has documented interactions with all three.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
New Earth Body may be worth considering if you're interested in spirulina and your doctor supports it — and only if you don't take blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or diabetes medications. Because of contamination risks and limited safety data, this is one to check with your pharmacist first, especially if you take any prescription drugs.

Body by New Earth Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
New Earth Body contains organic microalgae (spirulina blue-green algae), which has documented interactions with three types of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (Moderate severity). Theoretically, spirulina might increase bleeding risk when used alongside these medications, though this is considered unlikely based on available evidence.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions are also documented with immunosuppressants — blue-green algae may stimulate your immune system and potentially interfere with drugs meant to suppress it. Additionally, if you take diabetes medications, spirulina might theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), since research shows it can lower blood sugar levels on its own.
Altogether, these interactions span 322 individual medications. We recommend checking your exact prescriptions with the search tool on this page before you start.

organic Microalgae
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, spirulina blue-green algae might increase the risk of bleeding if used with other anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs. However, this is unlikely.
Spirulina blue-green algae have shown antiplatelet and anticoagulant effects in vitro. However, one preliminary study in 24 patients receiving spirulina blue-green algae 2.3 grams daily for 2 weeks showed no effect on platelet activation or measures of clotting time.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking blue-green algae with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Human research shows that spirulina blue-green algae can have hypoglycemic effects in patients with diabetes, at least some of whom were using antidiabetes drugs. However, blue-green algae does not seem to improve glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in patients with diabetes. A meta-analysis of animal studies also suggests that spirulina blue-green algae have hypoglycemic effects.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of blue-green algae might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Blue-green algae have been shown to stimulate the immune system.
