Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: 270 mg of freeze-dried, fresh broccoli. Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable with compounds called glucosinolates that are thought to be responsible for its effects on how your body metabolizes certain medications.
The capsule also contains hypromellose, an inactive ingredient used to form the capsule shell.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence supports broccoli as possibly effective for colorectal cancer prevention. For bladder cancer, breast cancer, fibromyalgia, and gastric cancer, the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works.
If you're considering this supplement for cancer prevention or any other condition, talk it over with your doctor — the strength of evidence varies widely, and what's right depends on your individual situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Broccoli as a food is safe for most people in normal amounts. However, concentrated supplements like this one are less studied, and the safety data advises caution — concentrated extracts don't have enough safety research behind them.
If you want to take this product, check with your doctor first to make sure it's okay for you. Some people have reported loose stools, diarrhea, stomach pain, and cramping from broccoli sprout extracts, especially at higher doses.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on any medications broken down by the liver enzymes CYP1A2 or CYP2A6. Broccoli can speed up how your body clears these drugs, which may reduce their effectiveness (Moderate severity for both).
Use the medication search tool on this page to see if any of your prescriptions are affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This single-ingredient broccoli supplement might appeal to you if you're interested in colorectal cancer prevention and your doctor agrees it's appropriate. But because it can speed up how your liver breaks down certain medications, you'll want to check your exact prescriptions before starting — especially if you take drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 or CYP2A6 enzymes.
The safety of concentrated broccoli supplements isn't as well established as eating fresh broccoli, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist to confirm it's a fit for you.

Broccoli Sprouts 270 mg by Eclectic Herb Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Broccoli Sprouts 270 mg by Eclectic Herb contains freeze-dried broccoli, which interacts with medications in two important ways.
The most serious concern is with drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP1A2 (Moderate severity) — broccoli can speed up how your body clears these drugs, potentially lowering their levels and effects. Research shows that eating 500 grams of fresh broccoli daily for 6 to 12 days can increase CYP1A2 activity by 10% to 200%; this comes from compounds in broccoli called glucosinolates.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Broccoli also affects drugs metabolized by another liver enzyme, CYP2A6 (also Moderate severity), and may reduce their effectiveness in the same way. Studies found that 500 grams of broccoli daily for 6 days increased CYP2A6 activity by 135% to 550%.
Although this product contains only 270 mg of freeze-dried broccoli — less than the amounts tested in those studies — the potential for enzyme induction remains. Altogether, these interactions span 187 individual medications.
Before you start, run your exact medications through the search tool on this page to see if any are affected.
