This product contains 2 active ingredients: vanadium and chromium (as chromium GTF, a glucose tolerance factor form). Vanadium is a trace mineral that may play a role in insulin action and bone health.
Chromium helps your body use insulin and regulate blood sugar. The product also includes microcrystalline cellulose (a filler), gelatin capsule, and magnesium stearate (a binder) as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
For vanadium deficiency specifically, the evidence is strong — it's likely effective for replenishing low vanadium levels. However, for diabetes, athletic performance, cancer, and cholesterol, the evidence for vanadium isn't established in our data.
Chromium deficiency is likely effective to treat. For type 2 diabetes, chromium is possibly effective based on some research.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence suggests chromium is possibly ineffective for those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vanadium is well tolerated at small dietary amounts, but supplement doses can cause side effects — mainly stomach discomfort, diarrhea, gas, and nausea when taken above the tolerable upper intake level of 1.8 mg daily. Rare kidney damage has been reported with long-term high doses.
Allergic reactions to vanadium metal are uncommon but documented. Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though high or long-term doses may carry risk.
Possible side effects include stomach irritation, headaches, insomnia, mood changes, and skin rashes. Rare serious effects include kidney or liver damage and blood cell problems.
Vanadium is not advised during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data. Chromium from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamin is generally acceptable, but extra supplement doses should be avoided in pregnancy and lactation unless your doctor recommends it.

Vanadium
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
A few very small clinical studies in patients with type 2 diabetes show that the vanadyl sulfate form of vanadium increases insulin sensitivity and might lower blood glucose levels.
Chromium GTF
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
