CytoFlora Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking CytoFlora against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of CytoFlora by Bioray Clinical
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
CytoFlora contains 11 active bacterial strains, most presented as lysates (inactive, processed forms of the bacteria). The lineup includes three Bifidobacterium species (B. bifidum, B. longum infantis, and B. longum), five Lactobacillus species (L. acidophilus, L. helveticus, L. reuteri, L. plantarum, L. casei, L. salivarius, and L. paracasei), and one Proprietary Blend.
These are probiotics—friendly bacteria meant to support digestive and immune health. The liquid form also contains water and alcohol as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what CytoFlora can do varies by strain. Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacteria), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections. The other strains in this product either have insufficient evidence to rate their effectiveness or show no evidence of benefit for the conditions studied.
For many uses people turn to probiotics for—like hay fever, anxiety, cognitive decline, or athletic performance—the data simply isn't there yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though those who are seriously ill or have weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and rarely diarrhea have been reported with probiotics, though these aren't common.
In very rare cases, some Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species have caused serious bloodstream infections (bacteremia or sepsis), but this has almost always occurred in critically ill patients, not in otherwise healthy people. A single case of a dry cough was reported in a clinical trial.
Safety data are limited overall, so talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have a compromised immune system.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from CytoFlora by several hours—antibiotics can reduce the probiotic's effectiveness. This is a Moderate interaction for five of the bacterial strains we could check (Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum strains, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus helveticus).
We couldn't check five other strains in the blend. Use the medication checker on this page with your exact antibiotic name before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
CytoFlora is a multi-strain probiotic liquid that may help with IBS and a few other conditions if you choose the right strain, but evidence is thin for most uses. The biggest thing to watch: don't take it at the same time as antibiotics—space them several hours apart so the antibiotic doesn't kill the good bacteria.
If you're seriously ill or immunocompromised, check with your doctor first.

CytoFlora by Bioray Clinical Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
CytoFlora by Bioray Clinical is a probiotic liquid with multiple bacterial strains, and the main interaction concern is with antibiotic drugs.
Several of the active ingredients—Bifidobacterium bifidum, Bifidobacterium longum (both the infantis and regular lysates), Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Lactobacillus helveticus—may have their effectiveness reduced if taken at the same time as antibiotics, because antibiotics can kill the beneficial bacteria in the product. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
To protect the probiotic benefit, you'll want to space out doses: take your antibiotic at one time of day and the probiotic several hours apart or on a different schedule. We could not check five of the eleven bacterial strains in this product—Lactobacillus rhamnosus lysate, Lactobacillus reuteri lysate, Lactobacillus plantarum lysate, Lactobacillus casei lysate, Lactobacillus salivarius lysate, and Lactobacillus paracasei lysate—because we hold no data for them.
