HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: dandelion root at 520 mg per capsule. Dandelion is a plant traditionally used in herbal medicine; the root is the part being used here.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin and includes magnesium silicate as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for dandelion root isn't established in the data we hold. The product facts list several uses—joint pain, tonsillitis, and postoperative swelling or pain—but all of them are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.
That means the studies so far aren't strong enough to say whether it works for these purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, dandelion is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement-strength doses like this one are less studied. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
Rarely, it can cause anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) in sensitive people, and it may trigger allergic reactions—including allergic rhinitis and asthma—in people allergic to the daisy family (ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and related plants). There isn't enough reliable information on safety while breastfeeding, so caution is advised if you're nursing.
Limited safety data overall means you should check with your doctor before starting this supplement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, certain antibiotics in the fluoroquinolone family (like ciprofloxacin), drugs metabolized by CYP1A2, or medications processed through glucuronidation pathways. The blood thinner interaction is the most serious concern.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion root might be worth considering if you're curious about traditional herbal use and have no medication interactions. But with 455 medications potentially affected—especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and lithium—this is one to double-check with your pharmacist first.
If you're nursing or have allergies to ragweed or daisy-family plants, talk to your doctor before taking it.

Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Dandelion Root 520 mg by Wonder Laboratories interacts with several medication types, and the most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs).
Lab research suggests dandelion root may slow platelet clumping, which theoretically increases your risk of bruising and bleeding if you're already on a blood thinner like warfarin or aspirin—though this hasn't been reported in actual patients yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to check if you take diabetes medications, potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), or lithium. Dandelion is high in potassium and may lower blood sugar or raise potassium levels too high.
It might also reduce how well your body clears lithium, potentially increasing it to harmful levels. Additionally, dandelion may affect how your liver processes certain drugs metabolized by CYP1A2, and animal studies suggest it could lower levels of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin) by a large margin.
Finally, dandelion might speed up the clearance of glucuronidated drugs, a group of medications processed through a specific liver pathway.
Altogether, these interactions span 455 individual medications. Because dandelion's effects in humans are mostly theoretical right now, it's especially important to run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Root 520 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
